PICARDY MERLOT CABERNET SAUVIGNON CABERNET FRANC 2007
WEDNESDAY, JUL 8 2009 BY CAMPBELL MATTINSON
This is basically Walsh’s note from the BRWB but I had the wine again the other night so I’m posting it.
We like the style of this, but it won’t be for everyone. Its flavours are a walk on the wild side: sausage meat, plums, twigs, aniseed and (Walsh reckons) sweet grass. It’s also a touch dilute. The thing is, though, that there’s a touch of class here. And it’s exquisitely balanced. And, basically, we just like its style. Six months after we first tasted it the ’sausage meat’ character has become less prominent and while it’s easy to see where the ‘dilute’ claim came from, it’s reaching towards medium weight, and is nicely convincing.
