2005 Picardy Shiraz

Picardy has proven Pemberton Shiraz can be fabulous. This wine will please those who enjoy cool climate grown Shiraz as well as those who cherish some earthy complexities. Aged in high quality Meyrieux small oak barrels, the wine is complex and unique. It has a deep purple-red colour and rich, ripe aromas of black cherry and plum. The palate has a fleshy texture with some density and offers sweet fruit with spicy, gamy overtones. Tannins are generous but supple. Impressive length and balance complete the picture. Great drinking with red meat dishes.

This wine has been made even more complex by the use of 3% Viognier and 3% Malbec in the blend. The Viognier is used to sweeten the front palate and silk out the tannins while the Malbec adds some ripe dark fruit characters.

(wine Press 2006)

Picardy Shiraz 2005,Pemberton, WA.

Find a quiet moment, sit down and turn off the music, because you need to take some time to tune in to this contemplative Shiraz. Its spicy, lithe chassis hums with pepper and plums. Picardy is best known for its Pemberton Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, but the real secret of the range is this Shiraz. Prices vary wildly, so buy it direct for $20 (www.picardy.com.au). Serious wine at a silly price.
